A Special Message about the Pasadena Playhouse

Last week brought sad news to the local arts community. As you may already know, the Pasadena Playhouse announced that it is closing down in order to review their options for restructuring their financial debt. We hope their plan for reorganization will allow them to reopen soon and move forward. Not only are they a vital part of the Pasadena arts community but also our colleagues and friends.

Boston Court, along with a number of other Los Angeles area theaters, is joining forces with L.A. Stage Alliance to support the Pasadena Playhouse and its subscribers, either through offering tickets to upcoming productions or in other ways, soon to be determined. We believe in the vital importance of theatre in the lives of those who love it and we will do our best to allow Playhouse subscribers the opportunity to continue enjoying theatre while the Playhouse reorganizes. We’ll have more details about this program soon and will share it with our members.

We wanted to take a moment to let you, our wonderful supporters, know that Boston Court continues to move forward bringing you quality entertainment. We think it is important for you to know that we continue to operate without a deficit.  Last Fall, we made some internal budget cuts, including the tough decision to eliminate a staff position in 2010, so that we would not need to cut our programming.  Everyone on the staff is pitching in to take up the slack.  We are pushing forward with our exciting all-world premiere theatre season, which opens later this month with Luis Alfaro’s OEDIPUS EL REY, and we will soon be announcing our Music at the Court season.

2010 will continue to be hard financially on all of us and we want you to know that we truly appreciate the wonderful and continued support all of you have given Boston Court; whether it’s buying tickets, a membership or making a tax-deductible donation.  While the Playhouse is restructuring you can count on us to be here for you.  And all of us together will be here for the Pasadena Playhouse when they return to join us as integral parts of the Pasadena and Greater Los Angeles Community.

If you have any questions, I’d be happy to speak with you. Please give me a call at 626-683-6883.
